Google phone debut expected this week

The G1, the first mobile phone running the Google-backed Android operating system. The new phone could be unveiled this week.

GOOGLE is expected to ring in the new year by unveiling its own smartphone, the Nexus One, in a bid to expand its powerful web brand in the booming mobile arena.

The internet search and advertising giant has already gained a foothold in the market with its Android mobile operating system, featured in a number of phones starting with T-Mobile's G1 in October 2008 and more recently with the Droid from Motorola.

German scientist cracks secret mobile phone code

Karsten Nohl worked with a team for the last five months and finally cracked the code used to encrypt calls using GSM technology.

The findings can allow anyone to listen to private phone conversations.

Speaking at the Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin he said his conclusions proved that security of GSM, the most used mobile technology in the world, was "inadequate".

"We are trying to inform people about this widespread vulnerability," the BBC quoted Nohl as saying.

The expert added: "We hope to create some additional pressure and demand from customers for better encryption."

Rotten Apple iMacs spoil Christmas

If you were hoping to get your hands on a new 27-inch Apple iMac in time for Christmas, think again.

Serious shipping delays have frustrated Apple customers around the world and a minimum two-week wait now applies to all new purchases of the super-size all-in-oneiMac on Apple's website.

The company's problems are not limited to availability of the 27-inch screen. A flurry of complaints about blackouts and flickering screens have compounded the negative coverage surroundingthe new iMac, leading to speculation that the delays are related to the hardware faults, as Apple seeks to find a solution.

Although local Apple representatives did not respond to our inquiries, a company spokesman told technology website CNET that the new iMac had been a huge hit and said it was “working hard to fulfil orders as quickly as possible".

Google confirms secret 'Google phone'

The internet was buzzing over the weekend with renewed reports of Google making its own smartphone, after the internet powerhouse said it is internally dabbling with a mobile device.

Google workers are trying out a device that "combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities", vice president of product management Mario Queiroz said in a blog post.

Google is seeking feedback in a process it refers to as "dogfooding" in which innovations are tested internally before being offered to the public on the basis that employees should be willing to "eat our own dogfood."

Playstation Portable. Which one?

Got my very first PSP last four years ago, the very first PSP released that has a firmware version 1.50. Then eventually not more than a month, firmware has been updated. I still use UMD back then, a free UMD game when you buy the PSP. I never got a chance to buy another game because they're to expensive for me. But then months has passed PSP's firmware has been cracked. VIOLA! You don't need to buy UMD anymore, all you have to do is download and put it on your memory card. Modified and replaced my own PSP's firmware with a custom firmware. With a custom firmware you can put modified applications and other cool stuff in your PSP. Basically custom firmware maximize the capability of your PSP, not like with the official firmware. Like you can change your theme, XMB, icon, sound, booting game, opening. You can also put emulator for other game console, dictionary, read word files, used it as universal remote (love this one, only works with PSP Phat) . There are many other things that you can put on your PSP if it has a custom firmware (except for the PSP GO).
